The PedalHouston shop is up and shirts have been restocked! New colorways for the season and just in time for the warmer weather to sport around town and while you ride. Thanks again to everyone that’s supported the site and also just wanting to show Houston’s bike scene is strong and actively growing everyday.

If you haven’t heard yet, Houston is a proud recipient of a US Dept of Transportation $15 million TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant to build off-street bike paths around our city.

Happy Birthday, PEDALHOUSTON!
One year ago from this day was the launch of PEDALHOUSTON. Who would have thought it would have come this far and grown greatly through simple word of mouth. It’s whatever you made of the site and PEDALHOUSTON hopes to keep going. The awareness of the cycling community is present.
In a year, the social media scene for the bike community has grown significantly and we would like to think we help play a healthy part in that. There are plenty of things to look forward to in the up-coming year and just want to say that it’s been a great ride so far.
The energy of the bike scene in Houston is legit and definitely underrated. There are tons of cities that may be more bike friendly-er but we are getting there. To think there are a lot of rides popping up left and right in addition to the weekly bike shop rides, people have taken on their own initiative to start their own corral of people. That’s what it’s about – creating communities, big or small.
PEDALHOUSTON will be launching new shirt designs real soon and color ways. Want sticker decals? Slap ‘em on your bike, board, car, body, bags, etc.
Also, we’ll be doing some giveaway and specials as well. Thanks for the support and let’s hear from y’all. Follow on TWITTER and on FACEBOOK. Stay connected!
BRB, GOTTA RIDE!
Ever since PedalHouston has gone up, it has been quite the pleasure to meet a lot of the bike organizations around Houston. One organization in particular is BikeHouston. Not only have I been able to learn what they are all about and who runs it but more importantly, it’s given me the chance to get to know the people.
It has been a great experience working closely with them and assisting in bring BikeHouston.org back with a new energy to the online community and to the Houston bike community. Their relaunch of their website just shows that there is a continued and active pursuit to make Houston a bike-friendly and accessible city. I have had the honor of meeting and getting to know the people behind this organization and the possibilities are endless. The potential for this city to become a bike commuter city is welcomed and feasible. Now it’s a matter of there being a strong social presence to show that we want it.
Thanks to Darren Sabom and Aaron Chang of BikeHouston for giving PedalHouston the chance to work with you guys. This is only the tip of the iceberg with what we can do for the city and bikes.
Please do not forget to check out their bike shops page – it is ridiculously resourceful for those new to the city or just don’t know where the bike shops are around your neighborhood. It’s about time that this has been finally done!
Keep them bookmarked as they will be sharing a lot of useful city information and updates about what’s going on with the City of Houston, local projects and their annual Moonlight Ramble ride.
Don’t forget to also add them on twitter: twitter.com/bikehouston and on Facebook: facebook.com/BikeHouston.

Recently, I was given the great opportunity to have an interview with Erik and J from HandleBar Mustache. On twitter, they are known as @hbstache. PedalHouston had been introduced to them by Lynn of Voices of Survivors. These guys are also strong supporters of cancer-based charities. One thing for sure is that they appreciate quality and it is not only represented in their designs but in their materials as well. It is great to see biking influenced designs so it’s time to jump on it!
Check the interview after the jump…
