So there have been a lot of events this April from the races starting up at the Alkek Velodrome, to triathlon season starting up, to the final training rides leading up to the MS150 and also the main event OF the MS150. In addition to that, there has been the Lone Star Urban Race, which seemed to be a success and pretty fun watching them scramble for a bit to get to the finish line.
What was your highlight in April? Was this your first MS150 ride?
Peter Barnes wrote an amazing article for CultureMap about Houston’s own Alkek Velodrome. One line that stands out is “Single speeds are not a fashion statement.”
More importantly, get to know the people who run this place. It’s like family and they always are welcoming and open the place to newcomers and new fans to come out and support the racers as they press the track with all their might.
Check out the article and a nice video clip of the velodrome here.

So this weekend will be an anticipated one for many, a traditional one for others and possibly a wet one by the looks of the weather. It supports a great cause in fighting for a cure for Multiple Sclerosis but in addition to raising money for the organization, it also brings a ton of people together for a journey that they will always remember.
With all the open ports of technology, it is easier now more than ever to connect with your peers sharing same interests. It is easy to eavesdrop on people’s conversations via Twitter about how “anxious” they are about the ride or how they are “carb-loading” for dinner tonight. Nevertheless, it will be what you make of it.
So to top things off, PedalHouston will have an “official unofficial” tweet-up in La Grange at the overnight camp. Everyone and anyone is welcome. Time to put some faces the the names in the community! The meetup will take place by the Saint Arnold tent and look for any people wearing PedalHouston shirts with red sleeves on. We will start the tweet-up around 6pm so try and stop by to say “Hi” and grab a drink at the Saint Arnold tent also. I will have a few shirts on hand so the first to come around will get some! Take some pics and share a couple stories.
Can’t wait to see everyone on their bikes. We’ll see how this weather pans out. Ride safe and get some rest! Long but fun weekend ahead.
It’s hilariously brilliant that it might just work. More amazed that someone would be blown away by it that they forget to brake when they are behind you. Boring video initially but leads to brilliant results.
